Top 5 Nerd Conventions in the Northeast to Check Out This November and December
The convention season isn’t over just because the weather is getting colder. November and December 2026 still have plenty to offer fans of comics, gaming, anime, movies, collectibles, cosplay and everything else under the nerd-culture umbrella.
If you’re looking for one more convention road trip before the end of the year, Nerdthusiast picked five Northeast events worth checking out.
5. Garden State Comic Fest Vineland
When: November 14–15, 2026
Where: Vineland Convention Center, 631 E. Landis Ave., Vineland, New Jersey
Garden State Comic Fest brings its South Jersey edition back to Vineland this November with a weekend built around comics and pop culture. Fans can expect Artist Alley, comic creators, celebrity appearances, collectibles, vintage toys, trading cards, photo opportunities, autographs and convention exclusives.
Garden State Comic Fest began in New Jersey in 2014 and has since expanded into several events throughout the state. Organizers note that last year’s Vineland event sold out, making this one worth planning for in advance.
Pro Tip: Don’t wait until the weekend of the convention to decide if you’re going. Last year’s show sold out, so buying tickets ahead of time is the safer move, especially if you’re attending Saturday.

4. Collect-A-Con New Jersey
When: November 21–22, 2026
Where: New Jersey Convention & Expo Center, 97 Sunfield Ave., Edison, New Jersey
Collectors might want to leave some extra room in the trunk for this one.
Collect-A-Con bills itself as one of the country’s largest trading-card and pop-culture conventions, with more than 900 vendor tables featuring Pokémon, sports cards, Funko Pops, comic books, vintage toys, video games, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece and plenty more. Celebrity guests, anime voice actors and live entertainment are also part of the experience.
The show runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, with VIP admission beginning an hour earlier.
Pro Tip: If you’re hunting for a specific card, collectible or autograph, make that your first stop. With hundreds of vendors, it’s very easy to spend several hours browsing before realizing you still haven’t visited the booth you originally came to see.

3. Philcon 2026
When: November 20–22, 2026
Where: DoubleTree by Hilton Cherry Hill, 2349 Marlton Pike West, Cherry Hill, New Jersey
There’s convention history, and then there’s Philcon.
The Philadelphia Science Fiction Society is celebrating Philcon’s 90th anniversary in 2026. The convention traces its history back to 1936 and covers science fiction, fantasy, horror, literature, art, television, film, anime, comics, science, tabletop gaming, cosplay and more.
The weekend includes panels, an art show and auction, vendors, gaming, writing workshops, concerts, dances and costume events. This year also features a special Time Travelers Ball Friday night as part of the 90th-anniversary celebration.
For fans who enjoy the history and culture behind fandom as much as the merchandise, Philcon offers something very different from the typical modern comic convention.
Pro Tip: Take some time to actually study the programming schedule before attending. Philcon is heavily programming-driven, so simply walking the vendor room can mean missing some of the convention’s most interesting panels, discussions and special events.

2. Ocean City Comic Con
When: December 12–13, 2026
Where: Roland E. Powell Convention Center, 4001 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, Maryland
A December trip to Ocean City might normally make you think Christmas lights instead of cosplay, but Ocean City Comic Con gives fans another reason to head to the shore.
The convention features comics, celebrity guests, panels, screenings, cosplay contests, video-game tournaments, artists, toys and collectibles. Fans can also expect appearances and photo opportunities involving groups such as Star Wars characters and Ghostbusters, along with various pop-culture vehicles.
Another big advantage is the price. A full weekend pass is currently listed at just $20, while Saturday admission is $15 and Sunday admission is $10. Kids 9 and younger are free with a paying adult.
Pro Tip: Make a weekend out of it. Ocean City hosts its Christmas Parade the previous weekend and its Winterfest of Lights runs during the holiday season, so December gives you an opportunity to combine convention coverage with some holiday activities around town.

1. PAX Unplugged
When: December 4–6, 2026
Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Our top Northeast nerd event for the end of 2026 is PAX Unplugged.
Unlike many conventions that try to cover every corner of pop culture, PAX Unplugged focuses specifically on tabletop gaming and the massive community surrounding it. The Philadelphia event features a huge expo hall, new-game demonstrations, publishers and developers, tournaments, live RPGs, panels, workshops, free-play areas, board-game libraries and gaming events throughout the entire weekend.
There’s also plenty beyond simply buying games. PAX Unplugged features cosplay, community meetups, classic tabletop gaming, autograph sessions, miniature-painting workshops and even puzzle and escape-room experiences.
Whether you’re into Dungeons & Dragons, card games, strategy games, miniature gaming or discovering strange indie titles you’ve never heard of, PAX Unplugged is one of the best gaming weekends in the Northeast.
Pro Tip: Don’t spend your entire first hour shopping. Check the schedule and sign-up requirements for tournaments, RPG sessions, workshops and special events first. Some activities have limited capacity, and workshop participant registration can open early each day.

AnimeNJ++
November 13–15, 2026 – Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey
AnimeNJ++ is a strong choice for fans of anime and Japanese pop culture. The convention covers anime, cosplay, video games, tokusatsu, kaiju and Japanese cinema, giving it a slightly different identity from many traditional anime conventions. The 2026 event takes place at the Hilton Hasbrouck Heights/Meadowlands.
Pro Tip: If you’re staying for the whole weekend, look into the convention hotel. AnimeNJ++ has an official room block, making it much easier to experience the later-night programming without having to travel afterward.

Garden State Comic Fest vs. Collect-A-Con Weekend
One interesting quirk of the November schedule is just how packed New Jersey becomes with fandom events. Garden State Comic Fest takes place November 14–15, Philcon follows November 20–22, and Collect-A-Con lands November 21–22.
That means ambitious convention fans could potentially hit three different New Jersey conventions in just over a week, with Philcon and Collect-A-Con even taking place during the same weekend.
Which Convention Should You Visit?
For tabletop gaming, PAX Unplugged is the easy choice.
For comic books, artists and traditional comic-con culture, Garden State Comic Fest is a strong South Jersey option.
For Pokémon, trading cards, anime merchandise and collectibles, go with Collect-A-Con.
For science-fiction and fandom history, Philcon’s 90th anniversary is tough to beat.
And for an inexpensive convention road trip mixed with some holiday-season fun, Ocean City Comic Con could be one of December’s sleeper picks.
Whatever part of nerd culture you’re into, there’s still plenty happening before 2026 comes to an end.
