I’m sure anyone reading this doesn’t need an explanation on how groundbreaking Steven Speilberg’s masterpiece Jaws is. Everyone who has or hasn’t seen the motion picture seems to already have the knowledge that Jaws is the film that redefined what it means to be a summer-event blockbuster, that had many of its audiences paranoid of the waters for the time of its release, while having an enduring effect for decades later. If there is anybody feeling downhearted that the season is nearing an end and is now looking for closing summer entertainment, don’t give up hope just yet because the adventure/horror classic will be swimming its way back into theaters on September 2nd for the very first time in IMAX.
Jaws has had many re-releases in the theaters for years, since its debut in 1975 the film has made an everlasting impact on cinephiles and audiences alike, it has become one of the largest spectacles ever to be presented to people across the globe. This happens to be the first time that Jaws will be screening in IMAX, it will mark the biggest presentation to be on display for the film in its entire theater history run. The reason this is such a standout for the film is because for those who don’t know IMAX is the largest framing scale in the world, with the highest resolution cameras, formats, and projectors. Like conventional auditoriums, the IMAX ones also place its speakers both directly behind the acoustically transparent screen, and around the theater to create a surround sound effect. Difference here is IMAX also provides a top center speaker in addition to the center speaker found in conventional theaters. This extra channel allows the sound mix engineers to take advantage of the screen's greater height. So for anyone who might be asking themselves if going out to the theaters to see a movie from the 70’s is worth spending the money on, I would simply say absolutely, but even saying that I feel is an understatement. Hearing that iconic music score by the legendary John Williams in that room would surely make myself and anyone who admires this movie feel like they’ve made it into heaven's gates in that kind of place.
For someone like myself who has seen many classic films re-released into theaters such as Jurassic Park, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and The Godfather, Jaws has always been the one I’ve been captivated to see the most on the big screen. This also seems like a big opportunity for newcomers who have never witnessed the classic shark eater to catch it in the theaters rather than their home screens for the very first time. Hopefully this has piqued some interest for anyone reading this. If there is an AMC theater with an IMAX auditorium near your area and you have nothing to do this Friday night, this looks like a worthy way to spend your valuable time.
