Preview of RoboCop Rogue City: New Game Release

Robocop Rogue City by Teyon

What’s this, a new Robocop game? This definitely peaked my interest as a huge 1987 Robocop fan and avid gamer. The work from Paul Verhoeven was a masterpiece, set in a crazy dystopian Detroit City. What we’re getting from Teyon seems to be right in line with the vision of Paul Verhoevens image of the desolate world that left Detroit behind, full of gangs, drugs, and corruption.

Teyon, a developer of many games, one most recently was a Terminator Salvation First Person Shooter, looks to be going down memory lane once again to fit the script of some really nostalgic brands. So far they have stayed completely loyal to the look and feel of the movie Robocop, even down to using Peter Weller’s voice acting, character likeness, and Robocop’s computerized perspective view of the world. In a clip from the trailer, players are able to seem Robocop’s lock-on system that was very accurate to what we saw in the same movie.

There are even nods to movie lines throughout the Robocop: Rogue City trailer, including one of my favorites “Can you Fly, Bobby?” said by the classic character Clarence Boddicker right before throwing one of his henchmen out the back of a moving truck. This game has some very big shoes to fill, I’m skeptical to see if the slow movement of Robocop will feel in today’s fast paced gaming world. Robocop had physical restrictions, so I’m curious on the notion of keeping the gameplay feel fresh and not constrained, yet true to how the character behaved in the original film.

Paul Verhoeven built the blueprints of the world we’re about to step in, let’s see if Teyon can keep it true to his heart.
