Disney Summer Trip Tips!

Alright guys, if you are heading to Disney during those hot summer months this is for you! I get it, we would all love to go to Disney during the "cooler months", you know when they happen in Disney. Unfortunately those few cool times happen when the kids are in school. So, you planned a trip for August, your looking at the heat index, and you start to wonder if you made a mistake. How about I make this a little more bearable for you! Grab your ears and lets pack for a hot summer trip, with some tips along the way!

Breaks!

First things first, plan in breaks! I cannot stress this enough. I am a rope drop to park close girl, but when the sun is blaring, and the kids are tired sometimes you cannot spend 12-13 hours in the park a day without someone (even you) having a breakdown. Pro tip, get to the park early do a few rides, have a late breakfast or early lunch , cool down, maybe a nap for the littles and head back to the park for dinner, some rides and fireworks! The break during the hottest part of the day makes a huge difference!

Cooling Towels

I don't care how silly you think they look, cooling towels work! Whether you buy them in the park or on Amazon, which will save you some money, make sure you bring them! While at the park, cool them down under a faucet every few hours and it will be sure to keep you cool. Make sure you bring a zip-lock or plastic bag to put it in inside your bag if you feel like taking it off at some point.

Extra Shoes & Socks

The pavement is hot, the air is hot, everything is on fire and then it downpours! When it downpours, you are bound to get wet. Even if you have a poncho on( which should also be packed) your feet are not totally safe from puddles! There is nothing more uncomfortable than squishy shoes causing blisters. By bringing some extra socks into the park with you and for the littles, you may get a kittle relief from the wet shoes until you head back to the hotel. Now, as for the extra shoes, those are for you to switch off for dinner that night, or for them to dry overnight without having to put on damp shoes in the morning.

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!

02H 02H! Get it, backside of water…. Anyway, water is key here. You are going to be dehydrated if you skip out on it. Good thing is you don't need to shell out $5-$6 dollars every time you need some water. Bring along a water bottle, my favorite is a lightweight Camelbak or Pogo, both on Amazon or Target. You can stop at any quick-service and get free ice water! Even if you get a soft-drink, grab some of those free waters and fill up everyone's bottle. We tend to do a delivery service of groceries including a case or two of water, depending on how many people and how many days, and fill our bottles before heading to the park and getting our ice water through the day.

Sunscreen!

I promise if you get sunburn your first day in Disney you will be hurting the whole trip! Each day I look at the weather the UV is at an 11. When I say sunscreen, I mean at least 30 SPF! Pack a smaller one in your park bag for the day to re-apply. Along with sunscreen it's a great idea to pack hats or visors. I know everyone wants to wear cute ears, but that’s not protecting your face. If you or your little are prone to sunburn I also suggest some UV sun guard shirts especially when you go swimming on your afternoon break.

Take advantage of the AC

In each park there are some great indoor shows you can watch for a break from the heat. Carousel of Progress, Hall of Presidents, Lion King, Indiana Jones, American Adventure, Mickey's Philharmagic, Finding Nemo, Country Bear Jamboree, The Muppets 3-D are just some of the great indoor options to cool down and get your Disney magic fix! Don't forget my favorite, Tiki Room! These are shows we sometimes skip, but are super cute and definitely give you a break from the sun outside.

Have Fun

You may be melting, but you are still in Disney. Enjoy the time with your family, or even on a solo trip. Some tantrums are sure to happen, but it doesn’t have to ruin the day or the trip. Grab a dole whip or a mickey bar and remember, you are in the most magical place on earth!

This time next week I will be in Disney and prepping some awesome content for you guys on Food & Wine! Until next time!
