Popular Anime and Videogame Actor Passes Away at 35

The voice acting world suffered a great loss last week with the passing of Billy Kametz, on June 9th, after his battle with Colon cancer. At only 35 years old, Kametz revealed his diagnosis to his fans on Instagram, telling them he had stage 4 colon cancer, and that it had spread to his lungs, liver and spine. He also told everyone at that point he had undergone radiation and chemotherapy, and that he had "so much positivity surrounding me and so many people giving me strength.

In an interview from PennLive with  Billy's agent, A. Jinnie McManus stated, "Billy lived his dream as a fan of Japanese animation and video games who grew up to act in beloved roles that will now stand forever as his legacy,". Billy was known in both the Anime and Videogame community, with his work spanning many popular shows and games. Some of his best known work was providing the voice for Ren in Pokémon, he played Josuke Higashikata in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Naofumi Iwatani in The Rising of the Shield Hero, Galo Thymos in Promare and Ferdinand in the Fire Emblem video games, and so many more.

For me I loved the work Billy did, especially The Rising of the Shield Hero, which I am currently watching as the second season just released a few weeks ago. Where the english dub will go from here with such a big loss is something that is still unknown, but I am hoping it will be done with Billy in their hearts. Both fans and friends loved Billy, and will truly miss him.

“Anyone who has met Billy will tell you he is one of the most sincere, humble, and loving people they have ever met,” the obituary states. “His infectious personality and smile always lit up a room with so much joy and happiness.”  - A Jinnie McManus

Any fans who want to make memorial contributions to Billy Kametz can donate money in his name to the Colon Cancer Coalition. You can also donate to his GoFundMe, which will go toward funding his funeral, but will be closed on June 14th.
