It's 1996, the Chicago Bulls and a young Michael Jordan are coming off of their fourth championship in 6 years. So it came to no surprise when the now cult classic kids movie "Space Jam" announced production and that NBA All-Star Michael Jordan would be cast as the lead role.
I remember watching Space Jam for the first time and being sucked in from the start! Just watching highlights of MJ in his prime and the kicks he was wearing in every one of them. I was hooked!
Whether you are a sneakerhead or a NBA fan, the movie Space Jam delivers one of Nikes most successful launches ever. The classics have been honored with 3 more retro releases in 2000, 2009, and 2016. Today the " Space Jam Originals" remains one of the most coveted Jordan Brand sneakers to date.
In fact in Feb 2019, Springfield Entertainment a company owned by NBA All-Star LeBron James announced that Space Jam 2 "A New Legacy" starring LeBron James would be released on July 14th 2021. But what about the sneaker game?
For those SneakerFreaks (such as myself) that couldn't wait for the release of the Space Jam 2 movie, Nike has some sneaker styles inspired by the film to curb your "Space Jam" appetite. Such as the Nike LeBron 17 "Monstars" in multi-color ranging from (bright purple to bright orange) and the Nike LeBron 17 "Mr. Swackhammer" covered in predominantly Bright Green colorway.
Similar in many ways from the greatness of the athletic star to the legendary kicks released, Space Jam 2 gives us Nerdthusiast SneakerFreaks something to get excited about all over again! Stay tuned for our movie sneaker review once the film is released in July!
